Powercor’s Elaine Terminal Station is situated 4km north of the township of Elaine in regional Victoria, 23km North-East of the Mt Mercer wind farm – a renewable energy source that generates enough electricity to power around 74,000 homes each year. The wind farm connects with the existing Victorian electricity grid in Elaine via a 132 kilovolt line, and the terminal station is responsible for increasing the voltage from 132kV to 220kV, allowing the electricity to be distributed across the national grid.

Hickory Group was a part of this important renewable energy infrastructure initiative, designing and constructing the Elaine Terminal Station control room for Powercor from 4 prefabricated modular units. Hickory’s scope included all floor and wall finishes, amenities and infrastructure to enable Powercor to fit-out their battery storage units.

Using innovative prefabricated technology dramatically minimised the down-time of the existing terminal during transitioning over to the new facility, enabling Powecor to maintain a stringent programme of 13 months.  It also reduced the labour requirements onsite, delivering the project with a perfect safety record and demonstrating the flexibility of Hickory’s modular products to be applied to a myriad of high-quality project solutions across a range of sectors.

NOTE: Since successfully delivering this project Hickory have adjusted our delivery model to now focus on high-rise projects using conventional and Hickory Building Systems construction methods.

Features

Hickory was also engaged to fabricate and deliver 9 structural steel tower gantries for the Elaine project, comprising 6 220kV towers and 3 132kV towers.
