Hickory wins Award for Excellence in Concrete

Hickory is proud to have won an Award for Excellence in Concrete from the Concrete Institute of Australia for our La Trobe Tower project.

These awards recognise and publicise the significant contributions to excellence in concrete design, construction and materials in Australia.

Our MD George Argyrou collected the award from the Hon Wade Noonan, Minister for Industry and Employment, Minister for Resources and the CIA’s Victorian President Andrew Sarkady at the Victorian Awards for Excellence Cocktail Evening on Tuesday 15 August.

Our winning project, La Trobe Tower employed an innovative construction method, Hickory Building Systems (HBS)</a>; one of the first examples of integrated, prefabricated construction for a high-rise project, which performs equally in capability to conventional cast in-situ construction systems.

Managing the HBS structural concept design, stability analysis and engineering risk management, Hickory’s Principal Engineer Shan Kumar’s expertise in the field of concrete and steel formwork systems was instrumental in the successful delivery of La Trobe Tower.

Well done to all the team involved on this project.

Congratulations to equal Commercial category winners, BCM and Crosier Scott Architects for their entry, BCM Headquarters.

The win now places Hickory in the running for the national awards in October, representing Victoria. Winners will be announced at the CIA biennial conference Concrete2017 held in Adelaide.

Every two years, the Concrete Institute of Australia recognises excellence in the development of concrete technology and practice in Australia at its Biennial National Conference. The Biennial Awards Scheme was established to not only recognise the many significant contributions to the development of concrete technology and practice in Australia, but to foster improvements in the standard of concrete construction and to publicise the many excellent examples of concrete structures erected in Australia.
