HSE Manager (SYNC/HBS)

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to be based on-site at our Hickory Building Systems (HBS) and SYNC Industries facility in Laverton North. Reporting to the head of HSE, this role is responsible for leading site-wide health, safety and environmental strategy, driving continuous improvement, and embedding a strong safety culture across all operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and continuously improve HSE standards, systems and performance across the Laverton Facility
- Develop and deliver the site-wide HSE strategy aligned with business and operational objectives
- Provide strategic HSE advice and leadership to department heads and senior teams
Establish and report on HSE performance metrics, delivering clear monthly insights - Maintain HSE-related accreditations and regulatory compliance
- Identify and manage operational and strategic HSE risks, implementing effective control measures
- Drive a strong, proactive HSE culture through visible leadership and employee engagement
- Oversee contractor and subcontractor HSE compliance, including SWMS and documentation reviews
- Lead incident, injury and near-miss investigations and ensure learnings are embedded
- Oversee workers’ compensation, injury management and return-to-work programs
- Deliver HSE training, inductions and toolbox talks across the business
- Ensure timely regulatory reporting and effective engagement with regulators
- Conduct regular site visits to support project and operational teams
- Drive HSE leadership through a strong, visible presence across the production floor
- Monitor and respond to legislative and industry changes impacting HSE obligations
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE
- Minimum Certification: Possession of a Cert. IV in OHS/WHS or equivalent experience, such as a background in a relevant trade.
- Industry Background: Previous experience in a similar role within the construction, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated comprehension of construction and manufacturing processes, including but not limited to precast concrete panel manufacturing, electrical installations, mobile plant, and fixed plant (highly desirable).
- Legislative Knowledge: Sound familiarity with current Australian workplace health and safety legislation and plant safety requirements.
- Communication and Influence: Ability to positively influence and effectively communicate with operational teams and management.
- Software Competency: Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Professional Communication: Maintain a professional standard of written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to produce accurate reports and paperwork to a high standard.
- Safety Auditing: Prior experience in safety auditing is advantageous.
