POSITION OVERVIEW
Due to winning a new project, we are seeking a HSE Advisor to join the Hickory team. The HSE Advisor is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, health and environmental compliance across diverse industrial operations. This role aims to ensure the wellbeing of employees by implementing and monitoring robust safety measures, regulatory compliance and environmental sustainability initiatives. The HSE Advisor works collaboratively with operational teams, conducts risk assessments, drives safety communication and leads incident investigations to continuously improve safety protocols. The primary purpose is to safeguard lives, prevent workplace incidents and maintain environmental responsibility in alignment with industry regulations and best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure that the site operations comply with the Site Safety and Environmental Plans, as relevant.
  • Conduct site-specific inductions for all workers and daily informal safety walk (plus weekly formal inspection).
  • Consult regularly with the workers (and management) on-site and ensure all safety issues are discussed and communicated with the workforce.
  • Continually monitor works on-site to ensure that all workers are complying to their SWMS and work processes, including completion of task observations.
  • Complete weekly Risk Forecast, as appropriate, with the Hickory team and update the Project Risk Assessment for the workplace, as required.
  • Assist to identify hazards and ensure that subcontractors and Hickory are providing adequate supervision to workers on-site.

  • Identify training opportunities for Hickory employees on-site so that they can complete their tasks in a safe manner whilst ensuring the plant is as per procedure.

 

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE
  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS, or a Diploma in WHS, or Cert IV WHS with relevant experience, or a trade background. ICAM Lead Investigator qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Proficiency in Hammertech and other HSE construction technologies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional understanding of plant safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to large groups of workers.
  • Advanced documentation management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of workplace safety legislation.
  • Familiarity with construction-related industrial relations.
  • Exceptional understanding of construction processes, including precast concrete panel manufacture and erection, electrical installations, mobile plant, and fixed plant.
  • Previous safety auditing experience.
