A milestone moment for Hickory NSW as construction officially begins on the Florin Hotel, Sydney’s newest five-star hotel destination. Located in the heart of the CBD and just a short walk from Hickory’s new NSW office, the project marks another step forward in Hickory’s growing presence across the state.

With over 50 guests in attendance, the groundbreaking ceremony featured a speech from our very own Michael Kouknas, who acknowledged the dedication of our project partners and celebrated the hard work of the Hickory team. Led by Stefan De Leo, the team’s efforts ensured a successful mobilisation, officially landing on site, and taking possesion from yesterday.
Located at 499 Kent Street, the $275 million project blends heritage charm with modern luxury, transforming the former Universal Pictures headquarters into a 20-storey hotel featuring 228 rooms. Designed by SJB Architects and developed by INT.RE and Icon Oceania, the hotel will include standout features such as a rooftop infinity pool and bar, two signature restaurants, and a dramatic “vertigo suite” with a transparent glass floor.
A big thank you as well to Hickory’s own Alexandra Munro, who expertly delivered the event on behalf of Hickory and our project partners, ensuring everything ran smoothly and professionally.
